A few weeks ago I received an email from Ryan Popoff, the founder of Popov Leather. The email inquired about my interest in receiving one of their leather products in exchange for a Youtube review — the review can be found below.
I checked out the company’s website and found it to be very well put together. They have a wide variety of leather products available ranging from wallets and keychains to notebook and passport covers, belts, and valet trays. The website also has a nice “About” section where the owner talks about why and how he started working with leather and created the company.
The products that caught my eye were the writing products. Working in tech support, I generally carry a small notebook shoved into my pocket, which tends to cause the notebook’s edges to fray and become tattered. So, the Leather Field Notes Cover immediately stood out to me and I asked the company to send me a black version to try out. There are options to add pen loops and custom engraving, which is something I will add the next time I purchase a product from them. The Field Notes Cover arrived within a week and I carried it for about a month to this point.
As you can see from the photos above, the cover is only slightly larger than the Field Notes notebook. The cover is thick enough to make carrying and writing in the notebook easy, but is still slim enough to fit easily into a back pocket or even front pocket if you’re wearing jeans. It also fits nicely into the inside pocket of a jacket or sports coat. The cover also comes with an internal pouch and two business card slots for storing additional small items.
I would really recommend this product to anyone who needs to carry a small easily pocketable notebook. My next purchase will probably be the A5 Notebook cover, which runs $94 USD (The Field Notes Cover is $69 USD). I wish the company sold a leather messenger bag or briefcase but, unfortunately, they only sell totes at this time. I definitely appreciate a small company selling hand-crafted products for a reasonable price.
